Rule 1:
Above all: Be respectful and compassionate. Everyone here, by virtue of existing, deserves kindness and decency.

Rule 2:
This community is not a place for heated arguments. Conversations should remain polite and friendly. Aim for understanding other points of view, not "winning" the conversation.
If a discussion gets heated, please don't fan the flames; step away from the conversation to calm down. You have no obligation to engage with things that upset you.

Rule 3:
Respect others' identities. This includes pronouns, names, labels, origins, etc. Do not accuse anyone of faking. Do not insult others' coping mechanisms, beliefs, feelings, or thoughts. Remember that people are writing from their own perspectives, not making general statements that should also apply to you.

Rule 3A:
In particular, let people use the language and frameworks they feel apply best to them. Do not assume everyone will be comfortable with the same terms and frameworks that you are.
For plurality/multiplicity, this means: whether dissociative or not, disordered or not, formed due to trauma or not, etc.
For memories of events: whether they happened elsewhere, were created by the brain, neither or both; or whether outsourced issues relate to body history.

Rule 3B:
The explicitly stated purpose of this community is to provide peer support between people regarding events that the body did not (directly) experience. We will not tolerate oppression olympics or validity contests.

Rule 4:
If you're struggling with an outsourced issue, no matter what it is, it's not off-limits to post about it here. Everyone deserves support, and that includes you! However, to avoid triggering other members, we'll ask you to please put any of the following under a cut with appropriate warnings:
  • Abuse and sexual assault (e.g. animal abuse, child abuse, domestic abuse, ritual abuse, CSA, CoCSA, pedophilia, rape)
  • Alcohol and drug use
  • Bigotry (e.g. ableism, homophobia, misogyny, racism, transphobia, fatphobia)
  • Death (this includes animal death and in-system death)
  • Eating disorders, dieting, and weight talk
  • Gore and body horror
  • Incest
  • Medical malpractice
  • NSFW and kinks
  • Self-harm
  • Suicide and suicidal ideation
  • Violence
Please do not censor the words themselves, as this prevents people from using content filtering tools to avoid them.
Please use the Age Restriction: 18+ setting for any entry discussing sexual topics.

Rule 5:
You are allowed to discuss your issues in as much detail as you need to, and not just in essays or journal entries -- poetry, plays, creative writing, ... are also welcome, so you can talk about anything however you need to.
That said, entries posted to this community should remain a form of expression rather than entertainment. Please refrain from writing about your trauma -- particularly sexual trauma -- in the manner of description you'd upload as a fanfiction on AO3. If your creative writing wouldn't be appropriate for the "Personal Statements" section of a self-help book aimed at survivors, it's probably not written in the kind of tone that's appropriate here.

Rule 6:
You're free to lurk once you've joined, but we do require you to make an introduction before you comment on posts or make your own entries. You can use the template below, but you don't have to follow it as long as your introduction contains all the required elements! To keep things organised, please tag your post as introduction.

Name(s), a little bit about who you are (required):
Body age or age range (required):
Why you're here and what you hope to find in this community (required):
(This does not require you to disclose any issues you have! The point is to know you a little better as a person/people.)
Optionally, you can include any other information you'd like to share with our community, such as your fandoms (source or otherwise), hobbies, pets, or tidbits about yourself/ves such as your country of residence.

Rule 7:
Please feel free to PM either of the admins ([personal profile] thesaltinstitute and [personal profile] rainies) if you have any questions or requests about the rules, the topics, an entry you're planning on posting, the community or any members or discussion within it.
